Both a sanctuary and offensive

17 Mar

Hello again!

This is what God gave me today in his word:

“Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (Isa 8:12-14)

I’m going to be blunt here; The Gospel of Jesus is offensive. Let me clarify that sentence though please; It’s usually only offensive to those who don’t already believe it…

Now, what does it mean when it says “a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem” ? Well, I’ll put it this way; God has an uncanny ability to “grab you out of your little pit”, and put on the straight in the narrow (road)… The Gospel of Jesus is captivating, no matter how hard our flesh may cry out and try to get away, your stuck fast in Jesus… Your flesh is locked up – i.e. – entrapped. And though sometimes it looks like the flesh is about to break out, it always ends up being conquered.

Now then, what this mean:

do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.” ?

You almost undoubtedly by this point know about the earthquake that caused a tsunami in Japan. Well, some people call that a “fearful” occasion. I think that this song puts it best:

the earth can shake the sky come down
the mountains all fall to the ground
but i will fear none of these things
shelter me lord underneath your wings

dark waters rise and thunders pound
the wheels of war are going round
and all the walls are crumbling
shelter me lord underneath your wings

(shelter me lord)
hide me underneath you wings
hide me deep inside your heart
in your refuge – cover me
the world can shake
but lord i’m making you my hiding place

“Shelter Me”, by Buddy and Julie Miller

Yep, I’d say that pretty much covers it… We should be making God our hiding place! It doesn’t matter if it’s a 9.0 on the Richter scale or if it’s a tsunami! … We’ve got our little hidey-hole (Jesus)!

You are loved!
