This is what God gave me today in his word:
Therefore the Lord GOD of hosts will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors, and under his glory a burning will be kindled, like the burning of fire. The light of Israel will become a fire, and his Holy One a flame, and it will burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day. (Isa 10:16-17)
And now we see the result… God gets mad at us when we refuse to obey him. Maybe today he doesn’t set fire to our houses, but he does punish us in other ways. For example; guilt, depression (etc). I’m not saying God’s a big bully who says “do what I want or die!” but I am saying that if it’s for our good and more importantly his glory, he’ll do it… Whatever “it” may be at the time.
What’s the verse again? Oh, right:
Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! (Pro 23:31)
Sometimes; like if God is calling you to be a missionary in some place like Hatti, or Iran, the “wine” – I.E. – temptation to not do God’s will, may be a strong one… I’ll be blunt in saying these two things:
1) If you don’t do what God want’s you to, prepare to get about 100 different messages/rebukes to do God’s will a day… That package also comes with the guilt of defying God.
2) When you defy God, you’re putting yourself up as a prime target for the Devil… Just to let you know, that’s bad.
It’s true Jesus died to save us from our sins, it’s not true that because of that everything is going to be hunky-dory for the rest of our lives! When you become a Christian, you become guilt free, perfect through Jesus’ blood. That doesn’t mean we aren’t ever going to be asked to do anything for God! Just look at the Apostles for proof of that.
You are loved!
