The Root From Jesse

12 Apr

Hello again!

This is What God gave me in his word today:

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. (Isa 11:1-2)

A root from the stump of Jesse… Hmm, do you think it could be talking about, oh I don’t know, Jesus? If you’ll remember, Jesus was in fact a descendant of Jesse. I’d dare say that Jesus had the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge, the fear of the LORD and any others you might care to mention! – I’ve still got about #3 questions though –

Question #1: what exactly does “having” the Spirit of the LORD, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge really mean?

Answer #1: It means we are have the Lord living in us, we are wise and understanding about what is right and what is wrong. It means we can counsel people in the way they should go because God had made us mighty warriors for him, and it means that God gives us knowledge and understanding when we read his word… And it means we have a holy fear of the Lord.

Question 2#: Doesn’t the Holy Spirit cover all those “bases” anyway?

Answer #2: Yes he does, the Holy Spirit is seven fold.

Question 3#: And since Jesus “has” and in fact is the Holy Spirit, does that mean I/you/we “have” the Holy Spirit as well?

Answer #3: Just look at Pentecost, the apostles sure received the Holy Spirit! And we do as well, maybe not all in the same way… But we do receive the Holy Spirit as well.

You are loved!
