This is what God gave me today in his word:
In days to come Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit. Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain? (Isa 27:6-7)
67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?” (Matthew 26:67-68)
Did Jesus fight back when they mocked him and hit him? No! Why you ask? To fulfill still more prophecy! As we just saw in Isaiah, Jesus wouldn’t fight back… Instead; he would allow himself to be put upon the cross the save us from our sins!
3 But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?”
4 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 The LORD answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. (Exodus 17:3-6)
1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (1 Corinthians 10:1-4)
And; as we see here; Jesus had to be struck for “water” (i.e. the Holy Spirit), to come!
5 “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (John 16:5-7)
Jesus fulfilled prophecy so that we would know that he truly was and is the Messiah… And so that the Holy Spirit could come to us (or, “the helper”, as the NKJV puts it)… In short; Because of Jesus dying and rising again, we now have the Holy Spirit… That, and are saved from our sins!
Also; the reason Jesus fulfilled prophecy was so that we would know for certain that he was or is the Messiah! … iow (in other words), we can “rest easy” now, knowing that we truly are forgiven!
You are loved!
