This is what God gave me today in his word:
And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them, “Be gone!” (Isaiah 30:20-22)
When we are “put to the test” and “pass”. That is when God show s himself to us. And that is the point where we promptly proceed to throw good old Baal out the window.
3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. (Romans 5:3-4)
God gives us sufferings, because that produces perseverance, which in turn produces character and hope. What is hope:
be optimistic; be full of hope; have hopes; “I am still hoping that all will turn out well”
It’s to be optimistic, to still think you “have a chance”. You are hopeful that God will look on you with mercy and grace and save you. You are hopeful that destroying – i.e. defiling – your idols is what God wants you to do. And how again do we get hope? Through suffering… Albeit, it’s a bit of a round about trip from suffering to hope, but it get’s there non-the-less.
In short, while your troubles may seem like “giants”. It will end up with you destroying some obstacle that has been quote “preventing God” from entering your life.
You are loved!
