Engraved on his hands

09 Jun

Hello again!

This is what God gave me in his word today:

Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. Your builders make haste; your destroyers and those who laid you waste go out from you. (Isa 49:16-17)

Engraved on his hands

When a person was crucified, the exuctionar would pound nails through their hands.

When a person was crucified, the executioner would pound nails through their hands.

Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.

Sure that’s good and all for the Israelites; but what about you and me? What does it mean for you and me to be engraved on his hands and have “our walls continually before” him?

When a person was crucified, the executioner would pound nails through their hands as you may or may not know. – As you also may or may not know, a stone carver uses a very similar tool called a “chisel” to engrave things on stone. When the nails were pounded into his hands, we were engraved in them.

But now the question is; what did it mean about God watching over our walls? What walls?

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)

Not physical walls, but our spiritual defenses. Our spiritual “walls”. – In other words; God is constantly watching out for our spiritual safety; constantly looking out for those engraved in his hands.

Run, run away!

Your builders make haste; your destroyers and those who laid you waste go out from you.

“Your destroyers” – i.e. “Your tempters, deceivers, spiritual problems, and the Devil”. And God can make them all run away like scared little kids. Yes; I’d consider that an effective strengthening of our “walls”, wouldn’t you?

You are loved!
