Today Pastor Chris went on to, um, ‘group’ three: Joseph. He preached on Matthew 1:18-25. These were his four points:
I. Are we honorable in our pride and ego?
First Mary tells him she’s pregnant, and it’s not his, then she says, ‘Oh, but it’s okay. There wasn’t an affair or anything, this kid is from God!’.” Joseph could have chosen chosen to have Mary stoned, or publicly humiliated. However, he didn’t do either. Instead, he decided to divorce her quietly. However, after he got a visit from an angel telling him not to divorce her, he obeyed God, dispute his pride and ego, and obeyed God.
II. Are we honorable in public?
People can do the math, they would figure out that Mary was pregnant before they were married. Thus Joseph would lose some face; his business would probably suffer. Yet he was ‘honorable’ and obeyed God rather than fear man.
III. Are we honorable in private?
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. (Matthew 1:24-25)
IV. Are we honorable in following God’s plan for our lives?
This goes along with the first one.
Christ fulfilled all these roles (be honorable) already, thus when we abide in Him, we too can do/be them.
