Transquotation: Genesis 16:13-14

20 Dec

Hello again!

This is what God gave me today in His word:

Verses:

So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.” Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; it lies between Kadesh and Bered. (Genesis 16:13-14)

Transquotation:

And it was said of the LORD incarnated, “You are a God of seeing,” for, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me. Surely I, a slave, have been saved here.” Therefore the well was called “well of the Living One that seeth me”; it lies between ‘holy’ and ‘to be cold’.

Explanation of the transquote:

Well, maybe that was never said, but the idea isn’t to quote what Old Testament people said exactly, it’s to apply it to ourselves while part-quoting them. — The Living one, who was said to be the LORD (notice the ‘angel’ didn’t deny He was LORD), came down and took care of a runaway slave. And this all happened between a Holy place and ‘to be cold’.

Reminds me a little of how Jesus came to Earth and saved us; poor slaves with no way to repay Him (though we weren’t making any real effort to get away from our master). – No matter how much we cling to our chains, the LORD ‘seeth’ us and whilst rescue us.

And yes, for everyone whose wondering, Beer-Lahai-Roi actually does mean that (source: http://www.searchgodsword.org/enc/isb/view.cgi?number=T1271).

And yes, Kadesh can mean either ‘holy’ or ‘consecrated’. — Source:

Also, Bered in derived from the Greek word meaning to be cold:

Bered in the Bible Encyclopedia – ISBE be’-red (beredh, “hail,” from a Hebrew root meaning “to be cold”): The son of Shuthelah of the house of Ephraim (1 Ch 7:20). Compare BECHER.

New Testament confirmation:

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)

Context confirmation:

And the angel of the LORD said to her, “Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the LORD has listened to your affliction. (Genesis 16:11)

God listened to her affliction; He sent her an angel to comfort her and tell her the good news of her son being born. Likewise God listened to us, and sent His son to comfort us and bring us the good news of His death for us.

You are Loved!
