This is what God gave me today in His word:
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
Jesus means what He said in a very literal, physical sense. He told His disciples that they, if they had faith that they could do so, could move mountains. This is still true today; if we are able to get past a lifetime of teaching that says mountains are firmly in place, and can’t be moved, and if we’re able to mentally forget about gravity, and if we are then able to have faith that we truly can lift a couple of tons of rock with a couple of words, then we can certainly lift mountains. However, as it is impossible for any human to do what I just mentioned, it doesn’t really bear thinking about, except as an analogy to our Spiritual life.
Sin struggles can be like mountains in our life: looming over us constantly, and seeming to be unconquerable. In fact, its true that we cannot conquer them. Just like it’d take serious divine intervention for us to have the faith to command a mountain to move, it also takes divine intervention for us to overcome sin; it takes Jesus’ intervention. He gives us this “intervention”, in the form of His death and Resurrection; through which, if we have faith that He is able to do so, we can have all our sin struggles dashed to rubble.
You are Loved!
